Ribbon cutting ceremony at the opening of the regional celebration of the National Science and Technology Week in Central Luzon led by DOST Sec. Fortunato Dela Peña.

With the theme “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development”, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) once again featured the vital contributions of the science, technology, and innovation (STI) community to the country’s national development during its regional celebration of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) in Central Luzon.

The three-day celebration was held at the Vista Mall Balanga City, Bataan from July 30 to August 1, 2019. The event showcased S&T exhibits and activity areas courtesy of DOST-attached agencies, and different research and development institutes and SUCs from Central Luzon.  Products and projects from SETUP and CEST program of DOST 3 were also featured in this event.  The event was anchored on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and highlighted the significant contributions of S&T in achieving these goals.

"All of these (overall growth of S&T) exemplify the value of science and technology in improving people's lives" – as DOST-III Regional Director Dr. Julius Caesar V. Sicat mentioned doing his opening message that was further reinforced by DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña’s message that our country has significantly improved its world ranking by placing 54th out of 129 countries in the 2019 Global Innovation Index.

The celebration was witnessed by over 6,000 S&T enthusiasts comprised of different sectors from all over Central Luzon.  Various activities such as film showing, techno fora which featured food safety, disaster risk reduction management, energy conservation, and agriculture, and a techno bazaar which featured different innovative products from SETUP beneficiaries attracted both young and adults to be immersed in S&T innovation and information.

The overwhelming success was made possible by with the effort delivered by the entire department and its partners, from the opening ceremony until the closing ceremonies on the last day. It is expected that next year will be another blast as we march towards the future with the belief and determination that growth and advancement of the nation can be achieved better through science and technology.
