The Department of Science and Technology has launched a 120-day supplementary feeding program to improve the nutritional status of pre-school children in Ramos, Tarlac.
The feeding program is being undertaken under the agency’s Expanded Implementation of Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (eCEST) Program and is aimed at improving the nutritional status of the fifty-four (54) identified undernourished children. DOST provided nutritious brown rice and veggie noodles made from vegetables such as squash and malunggay. Beneficiaries are underweight or severely underweight pre-school children from Brgy. Guiteb, Brgy. Pance, and Brgy. Toledo, identified through the Operation Timbang Plus 2020 conducted by the Rural Health Unit of Ramos. The program also seeks to create awareness on alternative and healthy food choices, especially to the parents who play a big role in their children’s health. Feeding duration of 120-day is adopted from FNRI’s Complementary Food Feeding Program. Beneficiaries will be weighed after program completion to determine the improvement of their nutritional status.
In her statement, DOST Tarlac Provincial Director Ms. Karen Dañez said that the initiative is DOST’s contribution in the fight against malnutrition among children. “Ang proyekto pong ito ay contribution ng DOST upang malabanan natin ang malnutrition sa hanay ng ating mga kabataan.”
For his part, Mayor Disodado Reginaldo of LGU Ramos, expressed his support and gratitude to the DOST programs in their municipality, “Ang aking administrasyon ay lubos na nagpapasalamat at sumusuporta sa mga programa ng DOST.”
