After receiving a glowing review from Senator Joel Villanueva on the implementation of its Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology or CEST program, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) office in Central Luzon has partnered with five state colleges and universities (SUCs) in the region to further improve the reach of the program.
A combined P10.7 million pesos intended for community livelihood development projects was recently released to Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), Bulacan State University (BulSU), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Tarlac State University (TSU), and President Ramon Magsaysay State University (PRMSU). Prior to the release, a meeting with the project implementers and their respective accountants was held to delineate the respective roles of all parties and to ensure the successful implementation of the projects.
The CEST program puts emphasis in providing assistance to indigenous communities as well as those classified as geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. A recently added priority group are rebel returnees to enable them to become more productive members of our society. Aside from livelihood opportunities, the program also focuses on projects that address other community needs such as education, nutrition, disaster preparedness and environmental preservation.
On behalf of DOST 3 Regional Director Dr. Julius Caesar V. Sicat, Mr. Wilfredo F. Sibal, assistant regional director for technical operations, expressed his gratitude to the SUCs for accepting the invitation to partner with DOST3, saying, “We’re looking forward to a very successful and smooth CEST program implementation with all the partner SUCs.”
For 2021, the amount of P46.2 million pesos from the office of Sen. Joel Villanueva has been set aside for the implementation of the program. DOST3 also plans to partner with more SUCs in the region.
