The Department of Science and Technology Region III through its Provincial S&T Center in Tarlac has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the local government unit of Pura for the establishment of a food supplement processing center to benefit mainly the town’s senior citizens.

Locally planted turmeric and moringa or malunggay plants will be used in the center which will be operated by the Pura chapter of the Federation of Senior Citizens of the Philippines or FSCAP.

A series of capacity building seminars will be held for the members of the association especially on production to make sure that products conform with FDA standards. A local food supplement manufacturer has been tapped to conduct the trainings.

Mrs. Karen Yango-Danez, DOST Tarlac Provincial Director said that the project is timely and will greatly benefit the senior citizens which is among the most vulnerable sector during this pandemic. Members of the federation are entitled to a discount when purchasing the said food supplements.  

The local chief executive, Mayor Freddie Domingo has also pledged support to the project by offering to assist in the distribution of the products to local markets, even as he expressed his appreciation of the DOST in providing assistance to the elderly among his constituents.
