Nine summa cum laude graduates lead this year’s DOST-SEI scholars who have completed their studies as of the end of academic year 2021-2022.

Among the nine top graduates is Lyko Palo who took up BS Psychology at the Angeles University Foundation. Born of parents who are both vendors, Lyko considers qualifying in the Junior Level Science Scholarships in 2020 as a living testament to her mantra that “God will provide.”  “I was ready to quit  school to give way to a younger sibling when the DOST-SEI scholarship award came. I believe that poverty is not a bar to reach one’s dreams.” Her future plans include enrolling in a medical school so she can serve her community.

On the other hand, Jerwin De Leon  took up BS Mathematics at the  Central Luzon State University. The son of  a tricycle driver and a sari-sari store owner, his love for Mathematics started in junior high school when he competed in Math quiz bee contests. Also a scholar under the JLSS, Jerwin wants to become a mathematics instructor so he can help students struggling with the subject. He is the 4th Summa Cum Laude of CLSU.

Another scholar who graduated  at AUF is Trisha Mae Chu with a degree in BS Secondary Education major in Science. Graduating with high honors certainly has its benefits as she was immediately hired to teach in no less that her senior high school alma mater. She says she envisions putting up her own school  and sees it as her contribution to making the world a better place.

For her part Janella Rutte Caluag, who took up Electronics and Communications Engineering at the Bulacan State University hopes to help carve a path for a more inclusive STEM industry.

The other summa cum laude graduates are Jay Mark Mendoza, BS Mathematics (BSU), Nathaniel Mendoza, BS Psychology (Don Honorio Ventura State University), Steven Nicar Chino and Rekarlo Punzalan both BS Secondary Education major in Mathematics (Tarlac State University and Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan, respectively) and Ma. Angelika Tongio, BS Biology (AUF).

They, together with 46 magna cum laude and 64 cum laude graduates will be honored for their outstanding academic achievement in the 2022 In Touch with Excellence awarding ceremony which will be held on November 11, 2022 at the Ephatha Center, SACOP, in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga. This awarding ceremony seeks to give due recognition to the outstanding academic achievements of these scholars. This year the theme of the ceremony is focused on “DOST Iskolar Graduate Ako, I am Ready to Face the Challenges of Making a Better Normal.”
