Two community sectors both greatly affected by the on-going pandemic recently received gardening implements and tools to start their own vegetable gardens to ensure the availability of food for consumption and also as a means of livelihood.
The Samahang may Kapansanan (SamaKa) in San Miguel and displaced workers from the Bocaue pyrotechnics industry, both in Bulacan recived the assistance from the Department of Science and Technology provincial office under the agency’s Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) program.

DOST-III Inked Agreement to Combat Poverty and Hunger

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) regional office in Central Luzon has signed a multi-agency regional memorandum of agreement aimed to address hunger and poverty in the region.
The Enhance Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Program is spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) with other government and community-based organizations (CBOs) as members.
The signing was done during the annual conference organized by DSWD where the partner agencies reported on their initiatives and accomplishments in support of the program.

Agta-Dumagat students get e-learning tools

The Department of Science and Technology in Region III recently deployed solar-powered interactive multimedia teaching aids at Bato Elementary School, Pinag-Anakan Integrated School, and Basyo Elementary School in Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan.
A total of 216 Agta-Dumagat students from the three schools would benefit from the offline e-learning technology funded under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program funded by Sen. Joel Villanueva.
The teaching tool will provide teachers and students access to interactive lessons and exercises in math and science subjects and simulated laboratory experiments.
DOST, ADMU and Local Community Join Forces in Preserving Mangroves

The Province of Aurora has a total of 642. 667 hectares of mangroves forest (ASCOT, 2021). Ninety percent of this is located in the northern municipalities of Casiguran and Dilasag, while the remaining 10 % is scattered in small patches, particularly in Baler, the capital town of the province.
As part of its contribution in the effort to preserve these mangroves, the Department of Science and Technology Region III through its Provincial S&T Center of Aurora in partnership with the Institute of Social Order (ISO) of Ateneo De Manila University recently conducted consultancy and training acivities aimed to rehabilitate these mangroves in Brgy. Esteves, Casiguran, Aurora. The mangroves area in the said barangay has a total area of 20 hectares, approximately 7 hectares of which is vacant.

An Innovative Teaching-Learning Technology for Quality Education in Four IP schools in Maria Aurora, Aurora

A total of four (4) public schools namely Kadayakan Elementary School, Decoliat Elementary School, San Juan Elementary School, and Bayanihan National High School in the town of Maria Aurora, Aurora received solar-powered interactive multi-media teaching aids from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) under the agency’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology or CEST program in Aurora.
Being located far from the town center, these schools which cater to Igorot and Ilongot students do not have access to the internet and other digital learning tools. But with the provision of the teaching aids, DOST hopes to enhance the quality of the teaching-learning experience for both teachers and students as they can be used even without internet connectivity nor conventional electric power supply.
