Perhaps more than any other sector of the economy, it is the small business entrepreneur that is bearing the brunt of the economic upheaval that resulted after the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
Sweeping in its onset, it blew past small enterprises faster than one can say a prayer and before you knew it an air of uncertainty hovered as inventories ready for deliveries suddenly stopped in their tracks due to cancellations or orders could no longer be fulfilled as workers are forced to stay home for the duration of the community quarantine. Surely, many if not all, these small business owners wondered if they could recover or if there will still be a business to revive post-pandemic.
Luckily for those who were beneficiaries of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program of the Department of Science and Technology, immediate relief was on the way as the agency announced a five-month moratorium on repayment of financial assistance for those falling due beginning March 2020. The respite will give these businesses breathing space to map out their strategies to recoup their losses and plan for doing business in the so-called new normal.
