As part of the “Expanded Implementation of CEST (eCEST) in Bocaue, Bulacan”, the DOST III together with LGU-Bocaue led the official turn-over of livelihood equipment to the members of St. Martha Smile Healthy Kitchen last September 23, 2019 at Brgy. Igulot, Bocaue, Bulacan. The said group was awarded with a package of food processing equipment through the assistance of the Provincial Science and Technology Director for Bulacan, Ms. Angelita Q. Parungao.
Most of the members of this group attended the training conducted by Ms. Parungao last 2014 about food processing. As shared by Ms. Parungao during the turn-over ceremonies, “Ang ibang members po ng grupo ay naturuan ko sa paggawa ng banana chips, crispy dilis, kutsinta, puto, at maja blanca. Umaasa po ako na with the assistance of LGU-Bocaue ay magamit at makatulong ang mga kagamitan na ito mula sa ating gobyerno”. She also highlighted that one of the objectives of the project is to financially empower the women to support their families.
LGU-Bocaue also expressed its gratitude through the hardworking Mayor, Hon. Eleanor J. Villanueva-Tugna. “Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa DOST III dahil isa na naman pong biyaya ang matatanggap ng ating bayan. Naaalala ko po na dati ay pirmahan lang, ngunit ngayon po ay totoong nandito na sa ating harapan ang mga kagamitan kaya’t nawa po ay gamitin ito ng grupo para sa dagdag nilang pagkakakitaan”.
With the provision of equipment to establish their food processing facility, the group is now ready to produce healthy food products for the people in the municipality of Bocaue.

Earth-carvers. The masterful and meticulous hands of the town-people of Sto. Tomas bring life to world-class earthenware.
A famous Cambodian documentary director once said, “Clay is a very interesting and fundamental material: it's earth, it's water, and - with fire - it takes on form and life.” But as per Mr. Willand C. Kabigting, these fundamental elements are not enough to expand his earthenware empire for the world and all to see.
Quick backstory, Asia Ceramics Corporation was established in 1984 as a humble backyard business that provides alternative source of employment for the people of Sto. Tomas. Remember when the Great Recession struck the United States in 2007 that affected the world and took it several years to recover? Mr. Kabigting remembers it more than Pepperridge Farm remembers. It was the time when all export were almost halted and brought the town of Sto. Tomas, a world-renowned terracotta exporter, to its very knees because of the cheaper earthenware products offered by China. But Mr. Kabigting, the visionary as he always is, turn to the science and technology for rescue.

Responsive Leadership. April 23, 2019, a day after the Luzon Earthquake where Pampanga took major hits, DOST Officials visit Diaspora Farm Resort, a SETUP farm-beneficiary, to inspect the shakings aftermath for possible effects and suggest recommendations. From leftmost, Engr. Romeolito G. Tacbian - Supervising Science Research Specialist, Ms. Mary Michelle M. Quiambao - Pampanga Provincial S&T Director, Science Sec. Fortunato T. de la Peña, farm owner Mrs. Annette C. Patdu, and Dr. Julius Caesar V. Sicat - DOST Regional Director.
A farm producing organic veggies and piggies, yep, you heard a lot of them before. But a farm producing clean food by using clean energy? Now that’s something new.
Such farm is Diaspora Farm Resort that is situated in the once called Athens of Pampanga – Villa de Bacolor. Mrs. Annette C. Patdu, an Industrial Engineer, started the farm initially as a family getaway during weekends with her five children. Initially planting fruit trees that were the only feasible to the lahar-laden property, the family farm grew and eventually extended to livestock while it maintains an agro-tourism resort and farm-learning site.
Come 2017, Engr. Patdu, wanting to live up to all organic farm advocacy, approached DOST requesting for a green technological innovation that can energize her water pumps and irrigate a 3,250 land where 40 percent of which is being watered via non-ecofriendly fuel engine.
